Who I am

I have worked in the field of conservation for more than 16 years, campaigning on environmental issues and advocating for the sustainable management of natural resources. I have conducted numerous meetings and negotiations to foster cooperation between various elements of the central government and across its ministries or agencies, and also in local government at provincial, district and city levels. Developing strong relationships between academics at various universities in Indonesia, local and national NGOs, international NGOs, donor agencies, media and communities is also an important part of my career. In 2020-2021 I was special staff for environmental affairs and natural resource management to Lt. Gen. Dr. (H.C) Doni Monardo, the head of the National Disaster Management Agency.

Where I work

Since becoming the executive director of the Rekam Nusantara Foundation in 2013, I have established a diverse range of networks and collaborations. For fisheries and marine programmes in Central Java, the Rekam Nusantara Foundation has signed an MoU with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF), Department of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of Central Java Province, the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Diponegoro University and Department of Fisheries Resources Utilization, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science,  IPB University. Through a project to develop local support for the conservation and management of rhino rays in Indonesia’s North Java Sea, I will further leverage the cooperation programme that we have been building up in Central Java since 2017.

What I do

I am responsible for creating mutual commitment and partnerships through multiple collaborations so as to manage research, programme activities and best feasible strategies, while ensuring that relevant information is delivered to a broad range of stakeholders. As an avid and critical listener, I see it as my role – and a very enjoyable one too – to emphasise inspiring stories, lessons learnt and tangible strategies that encourage interdisciplinary cooperation and distinct values among others. I am also a hands-on manager for some initiatives, taking part in negotiations and partnering with numerous local and international organisations, then monitoring the personnel of the initiative and its partners during the course of its activity. Recently I have been escalating an effective communication strategy, stakeholder engagement and collaboration opportunities between various academics, social groups and local communities in Central Java Province.
