Keshia’s life has always been intertwined with the sea. Born and raised in Cape Town, she grew up in a family of divers and navy personnel and learned to navigate the ocean’s wonders at a very young age. By the time she was 12, her first diving suit had become a second skin, and weekends were spent exploring underwater worlds with her family. These formative years instilled in her a deep reverence for marine life and a connection that would shape her career, her purpose and her vision for a healthier planet.
Driven by a desire to protect the ecosystems that had captivated her as a child, Keshia pursued a BSc in biodiversity and conservation biology with Honours from the University of the Western Cape, specialising in marine science. Over the next decade, she refined her expertise in marine conservation and mastered a range of skills, from deploying oceanographic equipment to leading environmental impact assessments. Yet for Keshia, technical skill was never enough. Her true motivation lies in fostering tangible change and transforming data into action and curiosity into commitment.
After pausing her career to raise her children, Keshia returned to her marine roots in 2023, joining the Save Our Seas Foundation Shark Education Centre (SOSF-SEC) as a facilities administration assistant. Here, she merges her project management prowess and administrative acumen with her unwavering dedication to marine education. Keshia thrives on creating opportunities for others to fall in love with the ocean. She believes that every interaction with marine science is a chance to inspire stewardship because when people feel a connection to the ocean, they’re compelled to protect it.
Keshia’s passion has taken on a deeply personal dimension since she became a mother. She is determined to equip her own children and future generations with the knowledge and empathy needed to safeguard marine ecosystems. To her, the ocean isn’t just a workplace but a legacy.
Today, Keshia’s work at the SOSF-SEC is more than a job; it’s the culmination of a lifelong journey. From her early days diving in Cape Town’s kelp forests to her current role, she remains guided by a simple truth: lasting change begins with heart-driven connections.
