Li-Anne’s earliest memory of the ocean is of walking to False Bay’s Sunrise Beach on Sunday mornings with her dad, collecting stones small enough to fit in her tiny hands and sea water, because the older family members believed sea water cleans out the digestive system. As she got older, she joined a community group that offered swimming lessons, enabling her to safely swim in the ocean and learn the basics of marine life. Funnily enough, the Marine Explorers use for swim trials the same pool where she learned to swim. As adulthood settled in, Li-Anne found that making time to go to the beach was not a priority, but whenever she felt overwhelmed she knew to dig her heels deep into the sandy shore and connect with not only her mind, but also her thoughts and feelings. Since working at the SOSF Shark Education Centre, the opportunity to look over her shoulder and see the ocean and the funny seals has become a daily part of her life, for which she is truly grateful. Reflecting on all the past experiences, her life seems to have come full circle. Li-Anne’s background in and passion for Early Childhood Development, along with her strong administrative skills, make for a perfect combination for her role at the SOSF-SEC.
