About the Marine Biological Association

The MBA is recognised by royal charter as the authoritative organisation representing marine biology in the UK. The institution has established a global reputation for providing scientifically robust, unbiased information, vital for the protection of marine life and sustainable use of marine resources. It has been delivering high profile, innovative outreach activities for more than 120 years, locally and internationally. The MBA is  committed to supporting career development & developing understanding of marine biology in young people by developing our YMB and student membership categories, which is now 800+ members strong with members from around the world. As a marine research organisation, it has a fundamental appreciation of the need for sound science to underpin global conservation efforts. As such, a core focus of the organisation has been on their ‘Young Marine Biologist’ and Student Members. The goal of these membership categories is to inspire and enable younger generations to pursue continued learning / careers in marine biology and conservation. By providing opportunities such as the YMB Summit, the MBA provides unique access and insight into the world of marine research specifically aimed at this audience.

Young Marine Biologist Summit 2021

“Ocean Predators!” was the theme for 2021.

Organised in partnership with Save our Seas Foundation, the 5th Annual Young Marine Biologist Summit took place on the 27th and 28th November 2021. Dedicated to young, aspiring marine biologists, the event was FREE to attend, and like in 2020, took place online. They could join the YMBS for high profile, inspirational speakers from around the world, prizes, career advice & more.
