Michael educating children during a beach cleanup
Michael Carnegie worked as a navigator, engineer and diver in the Merchant Navy. Following this he worked as a commercial diver and lifeguard in the surfing industry.
He has worked as a wilderness guide in the Richtersveld and he developed an interest in marine wilderness. He has worked at Sea World in Durban and with various onservation programmes involved with marine issues.
Michael is an outstanding fine artist and has recently won an award in England for his work. He assisted with the design, creation and set-up of the beautiful, artistic fish mobile hanging in the stairwell at the Shark Centre. Michael also spent hours helping with the general setup of the centre prior to the launch on the 15 May 2008.
In August 2008, together with Verona, he developed the education programme, specifically the rock pool lessons and consequently, has been instrumental in the fun learning experiences children have had on the rocks. Michael has also assisted with all the outreach programmes, exhibits and festivals over the past year.
A very heartful thanks and deep gratitude to Michael from Lesley, Verona and the rest of the SOSSC team!
