Just a brief note to bring this to a bit of a wider audience………….
A crowd of 4000 recently watched as an autopsy was carried out on a great white shark at the Auckland Museum, with another 30000 people watching online from around the world. The autopsy was carried out as part of a wider program to highlight the conservation plight that the great white shark faces globally, while hopefully also dispelling some of the commonly held myths which often abound about this majestic predator.
The fact that such a large audience turned up or tuned in just serves to highlight the public interest that the marine world continues to inspire, while also underlining the role that a communication medium such as the Internet can play in delivering a conservation message to previously inaccessible audiences.
