Recently the Save Our Seas Shark Centre hosted learners from the nearby township of Masiphumlele, through the Ekamva Youth Project. While most of their classmates were enjoying the school holidays in the usual manner, these young men and women used the break to further their education. Because these learners had expressed an interest in conservation and/or marine science, the Shark Centre offered them a lesson on sharks and a guided exploration of the inter-tidal zone at the local beach. While some of the learners remained cautious around these unfamiliar animals, most of them enjoyed the opportunity to learn all sorts of surprising things. Judging from the interest shown, there could well be future marine scientists in this group!
