The Shark Education Centre and International Coastal Cleanup 2019

30th September 2019

This year on the 21st of September, the staff at the Shark Education Centre hosted a clean-up at Dalebrook beach as part of International Coastal Clean-up day.  It turned out to be a very rainy and windy day but we put on our ponchos and boots and got stuck in.

Each year the Ocean Conservancy runs the International Coastal Clean-up (ICC) day.  Volunteers from all over the world get together and clean up around beaches as well as lakes and rivers.

The aim is to collect as much litter as possible and record the number and type of litter on a data form.  This data is submitted by the volunteers and then collated and a report is put out every year.

These were the top 10 items collected in 2018.

Every day is a good day to clean the beach.  If you would like more information on how to get involved with next year’s ICC event visit their website. https://oceanconservancy.org/trash-free-seas/international-coastal-cleanup/volunteer.
