The Save Our Seas Foundation is a philanthropic organisation dedicated to protecting life in our oceans since 2003. Its mission is to support researchers, conservationists and educators by funding research and projects around the globe, especially projects focused on sharks and rays.
The Save Our Seas Foundation (SOSF) is offering a new job opportunity and is looking for an:

Education and Communications Coordinator

The Save Our Seas Foundation – Island School Seychelles (SOSF-ISS) is expanding its team and seeking a second Education and Communications Coordinator. This role will be based on both Mahé and D’Arros, working in close collaboration with the Save Our Seas Foundation D’Arros Research Centre (SOSF-DRC). The position is intended to start in January 2026.

  • Engage with the D’Arros Experience Alumni, including organising regular alumni activities and supporting the development of a long-term legacy project in Seychelles.
  • Support ongoing efforts to raise ocean awareness among youth and communities across Seychelles through education, in line with the Foundation’s core mission.

 

OVERVIEW OF MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop a formalised D’Arros Experience (DEX) Alumni program in collaboration with SOSF and the line manager
    Lead and coordinate D’Arros Alumni Experience activities, including:
  • Maintaining regular communication with past participants
  •  Organising workshops, mentoring opportunities, and networking events
  •  Facilitating continued engagement with the ocean and conservation topics
  • Building connections across the education sector, relevant government departments, and partner NGOs

  • Maintain accurate financial records for all alumni and outreach-related activities, ensuring proper budgeting, reporting, and accountability for DEX initiatives
  • Implement a monitoring and evaluation program for the DEX program
  • Support the planning, preparation, and delivery of the annual D’Arros Experience kids camp, including logistics coordination, material development, on-site participation, and evaluation of activities
  • Conduct regular outreach visits to schools across Seychelles, in close collaboration with the other Education and Communications Coordinator. This includes delivering presentations, leading interactive sessions, and sharing educational resources related to marine conservation and the D’Arros Experience program
  • Work in partnership with the D’Arros Experience Education Coordinator in planning and participating in public events, including education fairs, seminars, exhibitions, and awareness campaigns, to ensure strong visibility and engagement with diverse audiences

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • BSc (or equivalent) in Marine Science, Environmental Science, Education or related discipline
  • Fluent in spoken and written English and Creole
  • Physically, medically, and mentally fit to participate in field-based activities, including ocean-based work
  •  Good swimming and in-water skills
  • Demonstrated background in environmental education and/or marine conservation
  • Strong interest in developing educational materials and promoting ocean literacy

BENEFICIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Demonstrated passion for the environment and a strong commitment to advancing environmental education and conservation awareness
  • Experience working with school children, particularly in outdoor or experiential learning environments
  • Excellent interpretational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to navigate difficult, sensitive, or high-pressure situations with professionalism and empathy
  • Strong communication skills – able to convey clear, concise messages in both written and verbal formats; comfortable engaging with schools, stakeholders, and community members
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and general digital literacy (e.g. Google Workspace, Canva, Zoom etc.)
  • Organisational ability to plan and manage school presentations, stakeholder meetings, field activities, and multi-day education camps
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision
  • Proven teamwork orientation – comfortable collaborating with local and international team members, including the Save Our Seas Foundation headquarters and the SOSF D’Arros Research Centre (SOSF-DRC)
  • High adaptability – able to work from home or in varying locations (e.g. Mahe, D’Arros Island, schools across Seychelles)
  • Driver’s license
  • Snorkelling and/or diving experience/certificates
