At the beginning of the school holidays, the Save our Seas Foundation Shark Education Centre arranged a three day Marine Camp for School learners from Capricorn Primary School.<\/p>\n

Nineteen excited children arrived at the Soetwater Environmental Centre near Kommetjie for an educational but activity-filled experience of the ocean shore ecosystem.<\/p>\n

The learners listened to presentations about marine organisms and their adaptations to living between the tides. They then explored the rocks and beaches to see the plants and animals for themselves.<\/p>\n

The learners presented their own plays and songs about conservation of the shore.<\/p>\n

Arranging shells in the sand helped the learners to distinguish between species.<\/p>\n

The learners enjoyed a mid-winter swim in the tidal pool.<\/p>\n

The Environmental Centre is a refuge for injured birds. The learners enjoyed a dramatic show of birds and snakes.<\/p>\n

Later they went on a bird spotting walk, using identification cards to spot a good variety of coastal birds with their sharp, young eyes. The\u00a0night hike up a sandy path onto the crest of a high hill with a talk about stars; was a highlight.<\/p>\n
