One of the benefits of living on a small island with few passerine birds means that it is easy to quickly learn to identify all the common species. Thus when vagrant shows up, they’re hard to miss.<\/p>\n

Case and point was the arrival of a Common Redstart,\u00a0Phoenicurus phoenicurus,<\/em> spotted hawking flies near a\u00a0dining area on D’Arros.\u00a0While the Redstart is a known vagrant in the Granitic Islands, its week long appearance on\u00a0our small coralline island is only the second record of the bird in the Amirantes.<\/p>\n
