Emergency Grants

Apply Now (Application window: all year)

Emergency funds are for projects or situations that require logistical, expertise and/or financial support outside the normal funding cycles can be allocated on special and rare occasions when these require unique, urgent and immediate attention. Only Chondrichthyes species (sharks, rays, skates, sawfish and chimaeras) or habitat related projects will be considered.

The SOSF will only consider environmental and conservation emergencies, not urgencies linked to lack of preparation or planning. This might be, for example, where individuals of a rare species are under imminent threat, or critical conservation equipment requires repair.

Application process

  1. The Emergency Fund application process consists of an online application form. No deadline is set for this grant category as its very nature is designed for unexpected and urgent projects in response to an environmental crisis situation. Projects need to address a new threat that requires instant action for which funding needs to be made immediately available.
  2. Funding is awarded for a period not exceeding 12 months.
  3. All applications will be reviewed by the SOSF scientific committee and require final approval from the Foundation’s Board of Directors.

Please read the funding guidelines carefully.
