Shark Spotters
Recently we interviewed Monwabisi Sikweyiya the Field Manager of the Shark Spotters in Cape Town about the programme.
Monwa was born and raised in Khayalietsha, a township in Cape Town, South Africa. As a child he enjoyed swimming at school and so at the age of 16 he joined Western Province Life Saving Club. In November 2004, Monwabisi was approached to be the first shark spotter at Muizenberg beach. He has been with the programme from the very beginning, moving up through the ranks and is now the Field Manager, making sure that the program runs smoothly on the ground. Monwa has developed an unrivalled passion and dedication to sharks over the years and has helped to make the Shark Spotting programme the success that it is today.
