How do you remove a whale carcass from a local beach?!

By Sarah Waries, 20th November 2013

On the 12 Nov 2013 a 10 ton whale carcass washed up on St. James beach, where it posed a health and safety risk. 15 hours later, with massive team work and effort by the City of Cape Town, Shark Explorers, Shark Spotters and the SA Navy the carcass is finally gone! The carcass was weighed at the Vissershok landfill site, and it topped the scales at 10 TONS!

On 13 Nov Shark Spotters recorded 16 shark sightings in the area between Muizenberg and Fish Hoek. Beaches were closed for 24 hours and a high shark caution was issued.
