2012 Porbeagles finally arrive inshore

It has been a frustrating start to the season, which was probably due to the presence of a huge algal bloom off the Irish coast. This has resulted in unusually poor fishing conditions and many species have failed to appear inshore. It looks like things are set to improve though and the effects of the algal bloom seem to be fading.

Finally after weeks of failed fishing attempts we have managed to get the first tag of 2012 deployed. Yesterday our anglers managed to tag a female porbeagle with a PTT tag, which is set to detach in 9 months. The 55 kg, 1.7 m shark was tagged off the Donegal coast and released as quickly as possible before swimming off strongly in perfect condition. There were reports from other boats in the area of more shark runs so hopefully the coming days will keep us busy.

We have another four PTTs and two SPOTS to deploy so there is exciting times ahead. We will post some photos as soon as possible.
