Bull shark genetics - exciting stuff!

So here is more really exciting stuff from our bull sharks in Fiji! Over the years we have been collecting tissue samples from bull sharks at the Shark Reef Marine Reserve. Together with many samples collected by colleagues in other parts of the world, Christine Testerman from Mahmood Shivji’s lab in Florida has produced no less than the global population genetic structure of the bull shark. She poster presented a summary of the results at the recent AES meeting in Vancouver, Canada (you can download the poster from here).

It turns out that the Fijian bull sharks are genetically differentiated from the rest of the Indo-Pacific. This is a surprising result and most exciting (although not totally unexpected)!
