Cameraman, SOSF
Edinburgh born Owen first felt the fascination of the oceans at the age of 7 when watching a neighbour’s slideshow of photographs from the red sea. He dived for the first time aged 15 and from that day on knew he would take a path leading him to a career underwater.
After completing a marine biology degree at the University of Glasgow, which saw him travel to Brazil, Indonesia and Crete on research expeditions, Owen completed a Research Masters in Marine Management and Ecology during which he spent 3 months studying the fish life of Red Sea coral reefs under the tutelage of SOSF Chief Scientific Officer Prof. Rupert Ormond.
Upon completion of his Masters, Owen immediately accepted the position as marine biologist on the Quiksilver Crossing global surf exploration, for the carribean leg of the journey. After further travelling, working in diving and his other passion of snowboarding, Owen’s dream break into the world of underwater cinematography came when he joined the Malaysian based filming company Scubazoo, spending a year working as a resort cameraman in Malaysia and the Maldives.
Since joining the SOS HD productions team in October 2007, Owen has filmed from Mexico to the Maldives on a wide variety of assignments documenting a wide variety of marine life and contributing to numerous SOS productions.
