In memory of Eugenie Clark

26th February 2015

An eminent and pioneering scientist, accomplished author and role model, Dr Eugenie Clark has informed and inspired the lives of many. Throughout her life she showed courage and enthusiasm, breaking new ground and cracking marine conundrums – particularly in the field of shark research. She was also a champion for these maligned species; she helped to dispel the myth that sharks are mindless killers by showing that they can learn simple tasks.

Sadly, Eugenie Clark passed away this week at the age of 92.

As a Senior Advisor Emeritus to the Save Our Seas Foundation, Clark was an asset and friend to the foundation, as she was to the rest of the marine science community. Her legacy, which includes three books, more than 100 papers and numerous scientific discoveries, will continue to bolster and inspire us for many years.

You can read more about Clark and her extraordinary life on Mote Marine Laboratory’s website, and at the New York Times, National Geographic and Washington Post.
