#goodsharkkarma 2015: the tribe

10th December 2015

#goodsharkkarma is all about developing a positive and respectful relationship with the most feared fish in the sea.

Every year in early December, thousands of beach-goers descend on Clifton 4th Beach in Cape Town, South Africa, for the Wavescape Surf Film Festival Beach Screening. This year’s event was held on Saturday 5 December 2015 – a sublime summer’s day with zero wind, clear skies and a crystal-clear, warmer-than-usual Atlantic Ocean. Things could not have been more perfect for some #goodsharkkarma.

About 5,000 people were on the beach along with the Save Our Seas Foundation team who were there to engage with festival-goers and spread some #goodsharkkarma. The temperature was more than 30 ˚C and we kept people cool with craft-brewed soft drinks served in ‘shark soda’ water bottles.

To claim their bottle, beach-goers had to join the #goodsharkkarma tribe with five easy steps:

1. Get the facts.
Check out the outdoor Sharks and People photo exhibition to get some insights into the peaceful and not-so-peaceful aspects of our relationship with sharks.

2. Get shark ink.
We had some of Cape Town’s top (when not spreading #goodsharkkarma they were on set creating zombies for Resident Evil) body painters creating #goodsharkkarma tribal tattoos.

3. Share the #goodsharkkarma.
Rummage through our treasure chest and pick some props before snapping and sharing your picture at our shark photo booth.

4. Pass the shark bar test.
Head to the shark bar and share a shark fact that you learned from the exhibition or the #goodsharkkarma team.

Share your knowledge. Sip your soda. Show your ink. Tag your pics. Re-use your water bottle. Spread some #goodsharkkarma and enjoy being part of the tribe.
